There are substitutes that we create for God in areas of our lives. The people in the Old Testament did the same. The prophet Jeremiah examines the substitutes we create for God—and calls us to leave broken sources behind and return to the fountain of living water, and not the broken, leaky vessels (cisterns) that we construct that can hold nothing.
