Jesus gathered people so that they might receive the truth. What He says will overturn human traditions that had eclipsed God’s intent. Jesus gives two commands: Listen and understand. Listen: give undivided attention. Understand: grasp the meaning, let it sink in, until it shapes conviction. He invites ordinary people to receive divine revelation; He speaks with sovereign authority. In God’s Scripture, His Mercy and His Blessings are closely connected, but distinct aspects of His character. And this is the foundation of God’s blessing. Without His mercy, without Jesus we would have remained forever under judgment.
