Kijuan “The Psalmist”
Beloved brothers and sisters, let us take a moment to pause and thoughtfully explore the profound richness of Paul’s words in Colossians: “And have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its Creator. Here there is not Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, free; but Christ is all, and in all.” (Colossians 3:10–11, ESV) This passage is densely packed with theological insight and pastoral compassion, beckoning us to delve deeper into its significance. Paul begins by inviting us to embrace our “new self,” an identity that emerges from our connection to Christ—an ongoing transformation that shapes our character and behavior. This renewal is not passive but rather an active process, empowered by knowledge that reflects the nature and image of our Creator. Furthermore, Paul’s assertion that there is no distinction between Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, or free eloquently underscores the radical inclusivity of the Gospel. It breaks down the barriers that often divide humanity—cultural, ethnic, and social distinctions—all rendered insignificant in the light of Christ’s unifying presence. His concluding declaration, "but Christ is all, and in all," beautifully encapsulates the essence of Christian unity. In this new existence, Christ transcends every boundary, embodying the source of our identity and purpose. As we reflect on these profound truths, let us commit to living out this identity, fostering unity within our communities, and embodying the love and grace that Christ exemplified. In doing so, we not only honor our calling but also witness to the transformative power of the Gospel in our lives and the world around us.
