Episode #13 Worship as Medicine

February 05, 2026
Kijuan “The Psalmist” Williams

Worship, as a practice of directing attention and affection towards God, can be a powerful medicine for healing. It exposes wounds to a loving presence, reorients imagination and memory, and mobilizes community support. Through worship, we can bring our pain to God, remember His faithfulness, and find healing in community.

Episode Notes

  • Worship as Healing: Worship, as more than just music or service, is a practice that invites God’s presence to heal and bind our wounds.
  • Worship as Exposure: Worship provides a safe space to express our true selves, allowing us to name our sorrows and bring them to God for healing.
  • Impact of Naming Wounds: Naming our wounds in worship doesn’t instantly heal them, but it paves the way for healing by making them tangible and held.
  • Worship’s Impact on Imagination and Memory: Worship, through practices like Scripture reading and singing, helps reshape our interpretation of experiences by focusing on God’s past faithfulness.
  • Practical Application of Worship for Healing: Anchor a short Psalm or promise to a daily moment to reorient your heart towards God’s faithfulness when difficulties arise.
  • Community Worship’s Role in Healing: Corporate worship provides a safe space for vulnerability and support, facilitating healing through shared prayers, songs, and presence.
  • Worship Practice: Invite a two-minute shared refrain into a meeting or ask a trusted person to be a worship witness.
  • Reflective Prayer: Acknowledge and name personal wounds, seeking God’s healing and presence.
  • Guided Worship Moment: Repeat the phrase “You mend what was broken; You make the weary whole” while focusing on areas needing healing.
  • Worship Practice: Invite a two-minute shared line of worship and a minute of silence with a small group or a trusted friend.
  • Reflection Prompts: Identify the area in your body or story that feels most broken, rehearse a short Scripture line or song for sixty seconds each day, and invite someone to witness your wound for the next seven days.
  • Closing Prayer: Offer tender places to God, seek healing, and share one small report with the community.
