Standing on God’s Promises

There's a strange little scene tucked into the book of Numbers that most of us have never really slowed down to notice. A frightened king named Balak hires a prophet named Balaam to curse the people of Israel. He's paying good money for it. But every single time Balaam opens his mouth to speak a curse, a blessing comes out instead. He tries it from one mountain, blessing. He moves to another mountain, blessing. A third time, still blessing. And finally, almost in frustration, Balaam turns to the king and basically says, don't you get it? You can't buy God off. You can't talk Him out of what He said. God is not a man, that he should lie.
