Five Reasons Why the Word of God Must Be Central in Our Worship
Because of the Word’s magnitude.
Because of the Word’s authority.
Because of the Word’s relevance.
Because of the Word’s purpose.
Because of the Word’s effect.
Because of the Word’s effect.
ACTS 2:36 Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified.”

ACTS 2:37-42 37 Now when mthey heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” 38 And Peter said to them, Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.” 40 And with many other words he bore witness and continued to exhort them, saying, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation.” 41 So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls. 42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.
I. The Word awakens conviction.
1. Two components of conviction
We realize the gravity of our need.
We realize the greatness of His provision
“God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ” (Acts 2:36).
Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins” (Acts 2:38).
2. It’s not until we understand that we stand under the judgment of a holy God that we realize how infinitely precious it is that He forgives us of our sins
II. The Word leads to Conversion.
37 Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” 38 And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (Acts 2:37–38)
Two Components of Conversion
Repentance
our minds,
our hearts,
our wills.
Turning to Christ.
III. The Word results in continuation.
“With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, ‘Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.’ Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day” (Acts 2:40—41).
We are led by the Spirit.
We long for the Word
The Bottom Line of Acts 2:14–41
We will be held accountable for how faithful we were to God’s Word.

Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’
