We have grown up believing in the value of pursuing happiness. We’re taught from an early age that this right is God-given, and vital to our lives. Did you know that the founding fathers meant so much more by this phrase than a mere pursuit of pleasure? In the 1700’s, what they meant by “happiness” was much more closely aligned with what we intend by using the word “virtue.” A life of happiness was a virtuous life. A satisfying life was one that sought more than your own good, but the good of country, community, and neighborhood. In Ecclesiastes 2, the author describes his wild pursuit of pleasure. He builds and designs and takes for himself – everything that he wants. What happens then? What happens when the dog catches up with the car? Join us, as we explore humanity’s search for meaning. What makes for a meaningful life? -Pastor Nate Roschen
