In the previous chapter of Hebrews and the first part of Chapter six the author is scolding the believers for not be able to discern deeper things of the faith because they had not matured enough. They were not growing. It’s like they weren’t taking their faith seriously enough. So the author seeks to stir them up with a warning about going backwards in their faith even falling away into apostasy. So then Hebrews 6:4-9 is about three things…

1. It is very serious to walk away from Christ into apostasy. So serious that no one can convince you to come back. Verses 4-6
2. It is very serious to turn your back on Christ. You can have rewards burned up at the judgment seat of Christ and all your work for Christ here on earth will be destroyed if you do that. Verses 7-8
3. You don’t have to worry about these things if you are truly following Jesus. Verse 9
