Episode Notes

Galatians 5:16–25
I say, then, walk by the Spirit and you will certainly not carry out the desire of the flesh. 17 For
the flesh desires what is against the Spirit, and the Spirit desires what is against the flesh; these
are opposed to each other, so that you don’t do what you want. 18 But if you are led by the
Spirit, you are not under the law.
19 Now the works of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, moral impurity, promiscuity, 20
idolatry, sorcery, hatreds, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambitions, dissensions,
factions, 21 envy, drunkenness, carousing, and anything similar. I am warning you about these
things—as I warned you before— that those who practice such things will not inherit the
kingdom of God.
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23
gentleness, and self-control. The law is not against such things. 24 Now those who belong to
Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live by the Spirit, let
us also keep in step with the Spirit.

LOVE
 If we don’t grow in love, people will keep us disappointed.

Galatians 5:19a, 20b Now the works of the flesh are obvious...20 ...hatreds, strife, jealousy,
outbursts of anger, selfish ambitions, dissensions, factions...

How to grow your LOVE:
 Spend time with Jesus and people who love Him.

1 John 1:3–4 ...what we have seen and heard we also declare to you, so that you may also have
fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. 4
We are writing these things so that our joy may be complete.

 Forgive others.
 Pray for others.
 Serve others.

JOY
 If we don’t grow in joy, life will be hard for us and those who love us.

Philippians 1:29 For it has been granted to you on Christ’s behalf not only to believe in him, but
also to suffer for him...

How to grow your JOY:
 Spend time with Jesus and people who love Him.

Psalm 1:2-3 instead, his delight is in the Lord’s instruction, and he meditates on it day and
night. 3 He is like a tree planted beside flowing streams that bears its fruit in its season,
and its leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.

 Don’t take yourself too seriously.
 Look for and celebrate the goodness of God.

James 1:16–17 Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers and sisters. 17 Every good and perfect gift
is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, who does not change like shifting
shadows.

 Sing.

Psalm 100:2–3 Serve the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.
3 Acknowledge that the Lord is God. He made us, and we are his—his people, the sheep of his
pasture.
