Cut to the Heart
1. The Holy Spirit is the most IMPORTANT person in the room
and yet He is often the most IGNORED person in the room.
Genesis 1:1-2 In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
2 …and the Spirit of God hovered over the waters.
Revelation 22:17 The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” …
Galatians 5:25 “Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the
Spirit.”
Romans 8:5 (ESV) For those who live according to the flesh, set their
minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit,
set their minds on the things of the Spirit.
Galatians 5:16-17 “ So, I say, walk by the Spirit and you will not gratify the
desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit and
the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other.”
2. You can walk in the Spirit or you can walk in the flesh, BUT
YOU CAN’T DO BOTH.
Acts 2:37-38 When the people heard this (the gospel) they were cut to
the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall
we do?” Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the
name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins and you will receive
the gift of the Holy Spirit.
John 20:22 …he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy
Spirit.”
Ephesians 1:13-14 “And you also were included in Christ when you heard
the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were
marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is a deposit
guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s
possession.”
Shepherds would mark their sheep so they knew which ones
belonged to them.
The Holy Spirit is the marker in your life that declares you belong to
God.
Exodus 33:15-16 “If your presence does not go with us, do not send us up
from here. 16 Because how will anyone know that you are pleased with me
and with your people unless you go with us? What else will distinguish me
and your people from all the other peoples of the earth?”
1 Corinthians 6:19 Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy
Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God?
3. Shouldn’t we expect that we would be different if the
Holy Spirit dwells inside of us?
Acts 1:4-5 (NIV) “…Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my
Father promised, which you have heard me speak about.
For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with
the Holy Spirit. ”
● There is a difference between receiving the Holy Spirit at
salvation and being continually FILLED WITH HIM for the
mission.
Acts 2:1-4 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one
place. 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from
heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.
3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to
rest on each of them.
4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other
tongues as the Spirit enabled them.
● They waited for more of God because they wanted more of
God and God came.
Acts 2:6 “When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in
bewilderment because each one heard them speaking in his own
language.”
Ephesians 4:30 “Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God and do not
quench the Spirit.”
Ephesians 5:18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to
debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit,
Acts 4:31 After they had prayed, the place where they were meeting
was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke
the word of God boldly.
Question to Ask: “Holy Spirit, what are you saying to me?”
