5-Day Bible Reading Plan 

Day 1: Courage to Approach the Throne

Reading: Esther 5:1-2; Hebrews 10:19-22

Devotional: Esther spent three days in fasting and prayer before she ever took a single step toward the king's throne room. She did not act on impulse or emotion. She prepared herself spiritually before she acted physically. This is a pattern worth adopting in our own lives. 

Before we make significant decisions, before we step into uncertain territory, we are called to draw near to God first. Unlike Esther, who risked her life approaching an earthly king, we approach a heavenly Father who has already extended His scepter toward us through the blood of Jesus Christ. The way is open. Draw near with confidence.

Reflection: What important decision are you currently facing that requires spiritual preparation before action?

Day 2: Aligning Your Wishes With God's Will

Reading: 1 Samuel 8:4-9; Proverbs 3:5-6

Devotional: The Israelites wanted a king. God warned them of the consequences. He granted their request anyway, and the weight of that choice shaped generations. What we wish for matters deeply, not only because of the immediate outcome, but because of the long road that follows every decision we make. Esther did not rush her request before King Xerxes. 

She waited, trusted, and moved only when the moment was right. Solomon asked for wisdom rather than wealth or power, and God honored that alignment of desire with divine purpose. When our wishes are surrendered to God's will, we position ourselves to receive blessings beyond what we could have designed on our own.

Reflection: Are your current desires aligned with what God wants for your life, or are they driven primarily by what feels right in the moment?

Day 3: The Danger of Pride

Reading: Proverbs 16:18; Luke 15:11-24

Devotional: Haman left the banquet joyful, his chest full of pride, his mind rehearsing his own greatness. He had wealth, power, influence, and now a personal invitation from the queen herself. Yet none of it was enough, because Mordecai refused to bow. 

Pride is insatiable. It demands more and more, and it blinds those who carry it to the traps being set around them. The prodigal son similarly pursued his own desires without counting the cost, and found himself broken and empty before he came to his senses. God does not share His glory, and He has a way of arranging circumstances so that pride is exposed for exactly what it is.

Reflection: Is there an area of your life where pride may be blinding you to what God is doing around you?

Day 4: God's Sovereignty in the Shadows

Reading: Romans 8:28; Esther 5:9-14

Devotional: God's name does not appear anywhere in the book of Esther. Yet His fingerprints are on every page. Haman built a gallows seventy-five feet high to publicly humiliate Mordecai, never suspecting that the structure would become the instrument of his own destruction. 

The very edict designed to silence women in the Persian Empire was being undermined by the wives of the two most powerful men in the kingdom. God was working in the shadows, arranging outcomes that no human strategy could have engineered. 

When life feels chaotic and God feels distant, remember that His sovereignty does not require His visibility. He is always at work, even when we cannot see it.

Reflection: Where in your life do you need to trust that God is working even though you cannot yet see the outcome?

Day 5: The Curtain Has Been Torn

Reading: Matthew 27:50-51; Hebrews 4:14-16

Devotional: Esther risked her life to gain access to an earthly king who could offer her only temporary deliverance. Jesus Christ, through His death on the cross, tore the curtain of the temple from top to bottom, removing every barrier between sinful humanity and a holy God. 

What Esther had to earn through careful planning, fasting, and trembling courage, we now receive freely through faith in Christ. The throne of grace is not guarded by palace protocol or the threat of death. 

It is open. It is available. It is waiting. We are not merely tolerated in God's presence. We are welcomed, as Esther was welcomed, warmly and without condemnation.

Reflection: Are you taking full advantage of the access to God that Christ purchased for you, or are you living as though the curtain is still in place?
