Thessalonians is one of 2 letters that Paul wrote to this church. It is a very important Book theologically and for eschatology. This seems to be the 1st letter Paul wrote based on the time it was written. It was written around AD 54. Some say Galatians was, but it is more likely that this was the 1st one. 1st and 2nd Thessalonians are known as Paul’s eschatological (end times) epistles. Paul covers end-time subjects in more detail here in 1st and 2nd Thessalonians than in any of his other letters. Some call it the letter of the rapture because Paul explains the rapture in chapter 4. He hints at it in the first couple of chapters, but 4 is when he really explains it in detail. We can guess that the believers had been told by Paul or the other Pastors that helped Paul about the rapture and that it may come in their lifetime. The apostles believed it would happen in their lifetime, so these folks probably did as well. It seems, by the way Paul addresses this issue, that they had thought they missed it somehow or something, and so Paul will clear it all up for them in these 2 letters.
