Pastor Mark White
AUDIO
Pastor Mark White’s sermon, “The Sword of the Spirit,” from the “Armed and Dangerous” series focused on Ephesians 6:17: “Take up the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” He explained that most pieces of the armor of God are defensive, but the sword of the Spirit and prayer are offensive weapons meant to confront the enemy’s lies. Using the Roman machaira, a short, sharp, double-edged sword, as the picture behind Paul’s words, Pastor Mark emphasized that spiritual warfare often requires getting close to people in love, not attacking from a distance, so that God’s truth can cut through deception with precision.
He also taught the difference between Logos, the whole Word of God, and Rhema, a specific Scripture made alive by the Holy Spirit for a particular moment or battle. Jesus modeled this when He answered Satan’s temptations with “It is written,” speaking God’s Word directly against the lie. Pastor Mark urged believers to fill their hearts with Scripture, ask the Holy Spirit to quicken it, and then speak it boldly over fear, anxiety, sickness, temptation, doubt, and spiritual attack. The sermon called Christians not merely to own the Bible, but to wield God’s Word with faith, humility, and authority in the name of Jesus.
