June 15, 2026
Fr. Jon Aamodt
The Altar Church is a Spirit-filled, Missional, and Sacramental worship community in Anderson, SC, rooted in the Anglican tradition but designed for a restless generation. Are you tired of playing it safe with "eventual" prayers? In this convicting message, Father Jon challenges the modern church’s tendency to avoid the drama and potential scandal of praying for immediate healing. Drawing from Luke 13, where Jesus instantly frees a woman bound by a spirit of infirmity for 18 years, Father Jon confronts the fear of failure and reputation that holds us back. It’s time to move past safe lists, step out in faith, and partner with the power of Christ to bring immediate transformation to both bodies and souls. Because in the end, it’s not about our reputation—it’s about His compassion.

Notes & Timestamps
00:00 — Introduction Father Jon welcomes listeners to the Altar Church podcast, a Spirit-filled, missional, and sacramental community in Anderson, South Carolina.
00:46 — Scripture Reading: Luke 13:10–17 Reading of the Gospel narrative where Jesus heals a woman bent over from a crippling spirit for 18 years on the Sabbath, drawing indignation from the synagogue leader.
02:18 — The Modern Church and "Progressive" Healing Father Jon notes that the wider church is comfortable putting people on intercessor lists and praying for gradual recovery or medical breakthroughs, but rarely prays for immediate healing as Jesus did.
03:40 — Why Don't We Pray for Immediate Healing? Three core reasons are identified for why the modern church shuns immediate healing prayer:
We don't want the drama: Society views immediate healing ministries as scandalous or associated with manipulative "faith healers."
Fear of failure: Leaders are afraid of the fallout, offense, or bad reputation if someone is prayed for and does not get instantly healed.
Lack of training: Most believers and church leaders have never been taught or trained how to pray for immediate healing, nor have they witnessed it firsthand.
05:43 — Priorities and Belief Church leaders often prioritize other programs over training congregants in healing ministry. Ultimately, many don't pray for immediate healing because, deep down, they don't truly believe it will happen through them or their church.
06:50 — The True Purpose: Love and Salvation Healing is not about the minister's reputation; it is an act of love and compassion. In the New Testament, salvation (sozo) is deeply intertwined with physical healing. Some people need their bodies saved before their souls can be reached.
07:37 — Deliverance and Healing Referencing Acts 10:38, Father Jon explains that healing is a direct counter-attack to the oppression of the devil. While not all sickness is demonic, many infirmities, can, have a connection to evil spirits.
08:15 — Testimony: The Healing Retreat Father Jon shares a powerful personal testimony from a healing retreat he hosted:
A young woman in her early 30s arrived in excruciating pain, carrying a portable stretcher/cot because she could not sit upright.
On the final day, a prayer minister noticed the woman was subtly manifesting an evil spirit.
Father Jon prayed for her life, commanding the hidden spirit to leave. After a moment of profound peace, the spirit departed.
Minutes later, the woman walked into the closing Eucharist service completely transformed—without her cot, without pain, jumping up and down, and shouting praises to Jesus.
11:01 — Conclusion and Call to Action The Lord loves intercessory prayer lists, but He is calling believers to step out in faith for immediate results. Jesus cared more about people on the cross than He did about His own reputation or perceived failure.
11:47 — Closing Blessing A final prayer of deliverance and freedom over those who are sick and suffering from spirits of infirmity.
