The Prince's Bride - Part 11

Brad Shockley

Pastor Brad continues the Revelation study by emphasizing how the book would have been understood by its original first-century audience, rather than treating it primarily as an end-times roadmap. Revelation is presented as a call to faithful allegiance to Jesus in the middle of competing loyalties, especially the pressure of emperor worship in the Roman province of Asia. This message focuses on Ephesus, the capital of Asia and a major center for both the worship of Artemis and the imperial cult. Revisiting Acts 19–20, Pastor Brad traces the origins of the Ephesian church under Paul’s ministry, highlighting the gospel’s powerful impact, public repentance, and costly surrender of former practices. Paul’s farewell to the Ephesian elders shows the kind of pastoral foundation the church received: humble presence, faithful teaching, and the full message of repentance toward God and faith in Jesus. Paul’s warning about “wolves” who would distort the truth from both outside and inside the church prepares the congregation for Jesus’ letters to the churches in Revelation 2–3. The message calls believers to spiritual vigilance, careful discernment of teachers by their fruit, and humility in refusing to elevate secondary doctrines above the central gospel.
